['intënet 'prëutëkol] internet protokoli ( internet protocol ose IP është një standart që rregullon lidhjen e kompjuterave në rrjetat që krijojnë internetin.)
IP address [ai pi ë'dres, 'ædres] shkurtesë nga internet protocol internet protokoli ( IP address është numër, që përshtatet me vendndodhjen e saktë të një kompjuteri të caktuar diku në internet. Zakonisht nuk nevojitet përdorim i këtij numri - në vend të tij përdoret internet adresë e koduar.)
Shumë e rregullave dhe standadeve, e përcaktuar për të mundësuar lidhje mes kompjuterëve me qëllim të shkëmbimit të informatave me sa më pak gabime. Çdo kompjuter duhet ta lexojë protokolin personal, që të mundet të vendosë komunikim me rrjetin. Një nga protokolet më të njohura për të punuar në internet është protokoli TCP/IP ( Tranmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol ).
